Skills Review
When you feel you have attained the knowledge and skills to advance to the next rank, you may sign-up on the advancement clipboard for a Skills Review. This will be a time where you meet with a scout who has a rank higher than the one you are working on. The older scout will review each of the requirements to be sure you are ready to advance. If you need a little more practice or research, the older scout will work with you and offer to meet again at another time.
Scoutmaster Conference
When you have successfully completed your Skills Review, the advancement chairman will assign an Assistant Scoutmaster to take time to review your skills and knowledge to determine your readiness for advancement. If the ASM feels confident that you are ready to advance, he or she will sign your report. If there are still a few things you need to work on, you will be asked to study or practice and return again soon for another review. For the Eagle rank, the conference is specifically with the troop Scoutmaster.
Board of Review
The final step in the rank advancement is an interview by three adult volunteers who are not ASMs or the Scoutmaster. These will be parents of your fellow scouts. Each parent will ask you a few questions about your experience with the troop, the most recent merit badge progress, future scouting plans, etc. Following the successful Board of Review, your rank advancement will be official. Some nights, the patches will be presented, and other times, they will be awarded at a future meeting. For the Eagle rank, the Board of Review is at a specific time and place assigned by the Atlanta Area Council.
